Proactive Strategies
Proactive strategies are simple considerations that should be checked before moving forward. Please check the following have been attempted or implemented and, if not, give them a try:
- Do you have a clear idea of the specific needs of, and suggested adjustments for, students in your class?
- Do you have clear and explicitly taught classroom rules and routines for learning?
- Are you sure that your expectations are appropriate to the stage of learning and developmental needs of your students?
- Have you consulted professionals and other stakeholders involved in the education of students in your classroom (e.g., learning support team, school counsellor, itinerant teachers, allied health providers, parents)?
- Do you routinely present information in a range of different ways, use different learning activities and different forms of assessment?
